Teaching On Jupiter

My adventures as a first year teacher.

My first week of school…was awesome.

I’m in love with my students.

I’m in love with my school.

I’m in love with my team.

I’m in love with my career.

An in depth post about my first week will be coming soon…I’ve just been using this evening to decompress. (Oh, and to complete a test for a Summer course…yay.)

But yes, my loves. I’m happy.

Saturday Night Live: BRING IT ON DOWN TO EMMYVILLE!

We’ve been nominated for 15 Emmys this season, including Outstanding Variety Series. Major congratulations go out to Bill Hader (Outstanding Supporting Actor), Kristen Wiig (Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series), Melissa McCarthy (Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series), Justin…

Classroom all ready for my space cadets. I put my final touches on today. Tomorrow, my teaching career begins. It is my hope to help all of my students reach their dreams. I know I’m where I’m supposed to be and it feels so good to be able to call myself an educator.

I’m ready.

Meet and Greet ready! In the morning, I’ll be doing last min “cleaning”. Apparently, we’re doing a flash mob for the parents…and
we have to rehearse. But anywho! Organized my room all day to get it like this and I’m beyond happy. My Granny made me two pillows for my classroom library and I love love L O V E them. And lastly, I stopped by Barnes and Noble. I picked up two books that have been on my wish list for a while.

So, yes. Going to bed a happy lady.

End of Day 3.

My room is still a mess but my walls are done. The goal is to make it look presentable for Open House on Friday. I know for sure I’ll be coming back in on Saturday to put my final touches on.

I’m happy with my progress.

I received my class roll today. It just hit me that I’m responsible for molding these little human brains.

Still working on organizing my classroom.

We have room prep from 7:30-12:00 tomorrow. (Since I’m a new employee I have a meeting at 9:00. Womp.) After that, it’s another faculty meeting.

Day 2 was a blur. Professional development. Now, my first two classes were awesome. The first one dealt with incorporating the balanced literacy approach in your classroom. (Mind you, my MA is in literacy education but it was still cool to pick up more resources.) The second class was focused on science and project based learning and that was very beneficial. Then, we got to our last two classes and there were people (from a different school) complaining about the district and blah blah blah. It just wasn’t very productive so I know I’ll be signing up for more PD in Social Studies and Science.

Came home and crashed. Woke up at 9pm. Been up ever since. Trying to get back to dreamland now.

Day 3…I am ready.

Day one of Pre-Planning!

This is my progress so far.
Right now? I’m sitting on my couch attempting to do homework for class. Did I mention I was in Summer school?

Yep.

So, my first day was wonderful! I met other members of the faculty and I’m in love with my team! Tomorrow is a full day of professional development off campus so, no real time in our classrooms but I’m going in early with my team. I still have a lot to do.

I was able to score two Solar System rugs…yay!

Anywho, Day 1…complete. I’m excited.

Tomorrow is the big day.

Well, not big big day…my kids show up next week. Pre-planning starts tomorrow. I’m nervous. I am.

I’ve waited years for this day and it’s here and…it still doesn’t feel real.

Anywho, I’ll be keeping you guys updated!

Barnes and Noble special!

Buy two Dahl books and get a lunch bag for free. So, I mean, obviously I bought these two books.

James and the Giant Peach is significantly shorter than Matilda so I think that may be our first chapter book after these initial weeks.

I found two picture books I know I want to share with them during the first week…but they were a little pricey so I want to see if I can find them used on Amazon. Hopefully, I can get them in by the week of the 15th.

I sub regularly in an elem. school with the pod style. Music actually helps because it creates a noise barrier from the distracting stuff.

I met another member of the 2nd Grade team and she made me feel way better about the set up. It’s just something different. The concept is actually pretty exciting to me. I’ll definitely keep you guys updated.
